SafeSpace / GħallKenn is a mobile app to help young people manage their emotions and to reduce urges to self-harm. It includes a mood diary, toolbox of evidence based techniques to reduce distress and automatic routing to support services available including emergency services for young people in Malta.
The freely accessible app is available on both Apple and Google Play stores, both in English and Maltese. It seeks to address the mental health needs of a range of young people in Malta (18 years+), providing those from all social settings with access to an app which can support them in mood identification, management and modification. It provides appropriate activities to alleviate low moods and resources for monitoring their wellbeing and as well as in accessing local support services depending on the severity of their mental health challenges.
SafeSpace / GħallKenn has been developed by the Centre for Resilience and Socio-Emotional Health at the University of Malta and the Malta Foundation for the Wellbeing of Society and is an adaptation of the existing BlueIce app developed by MyOxygen in collaboration with the University of Bath and the Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust in the UK.
